Protect those, who took the Oath to Serve & Protect Us

Police officers are commissioned to keep citizens safe 24 hours a day and seven days a week. The job of a law enforcement officer carries a great deal of risk, but many people pursue a career as a police officer because they feel a moral duty to protect others.” (http://work.chron.com/obligations-job-duties-police-officers-24841.html)

Danielle & Dad 1975

As you may or may not know, I am the daughter of the late Captain Thomas P. Earley a 28 year veteran of the New Brunswick Police Department.  My father was a proud, dedicated, courageous and humble man and I am honored to be his daughter.  Below is a favorite of photo of us from 1975.  I was just about 1 year old here and Daddy came home on a lunch break.

Even, while not on duty, Dad carried out his oath to protect and serve.   Oh boy some stories I could tell.

But, the main reason I am writing this today is because a great deal of Dad’s work happened outside the police station in the sunlight during ALL types of weather and we live in the Northeast so you know how our winters can be so cold and snow bound and how HOT our summers can get.

my_lieutenantI remember many times when my dad would come home sunburned because he spent the day out directing traffic in the middle of the summer.  Part of police work can also include, extra jobs.  Traffic control, etc.  As my dad was the director of the Traffic Safety & Enforcement Unit of the NBPD he spent a lot of time outside.  A result of over 25 years of prolonged sun exposure, he ended up with Melanoma, on top of Metastatic Prostate Cancer.

My goal with my ‘Skin Care Business’ is to educate people about the importance of wearing sunscreen EVERY single day, rain or shine.  This rain or shine thing is true, because in the past I have experienced my WORST sunburns on cloudy, overcast days at the beach.

According to the American Cancer Society, “Cancer of the skin is by far the most common of all cancers. Melanoma accounts for only about 1% of skin cancers but causes a large majority of skin cancer deaths.

How common is melanoma?

The American Cancer Society’s estimates for melanoma in the United States for 2016 are:

  • About 76,380 new melanomas will be diagnosed (about 46,870 in men and 29,510 in women).
  • About 10,130 people are expected to die of melanoma (about 6,750 men and 3,380 women).

The rates of melanoma have been rising for the last 30 years.”

We as a human race are learning more about the dangers of the sun’s rays (http://www.cancer.org/cancer/skincancer-melanoma/detailedguide/melanoma-skin-cancer-key-statistics):

  • UVA (deep aging rays) and
  • UVB (causes sunburn)

So HOW can YOU help, you ask?  I will tell you.

Beginnings…

Beginnings are usual scary, endings are usually sad, it is the middle that counts.  So make sure that you remember that when you find yourself at the beginning.”  – Hope Floats

Beginnings….a little historical perspective to back up the fact that I do know what I am speaking of regarding working for yourself, from home as an entrepreneur.

 moms_for-profit
In April of 2006, I began working with Kristi Stangeland, formerly of Mustang Web Designs…working for her as a Virtual Assistant, then as her web design assistant.
Kristi and I originally met through an organization that no longer exists called Moms-for-Profit.  Which had the mission to provide small businesses with skilled stay at home Moms consultants.  They were the match makers for businesses and consultants.
NYC at the launch of a Magazine for Hybrid Mom on May 17th, 2007
This event is where Heidi and I met, Kimberly Palmer of US News.  I recall sitting on the white sofa in the trendy loft in Tribeca where the Magazine launch party was held and Kimberly intereviewed us and Heidi was part Kimberly’s first cover article in US News in September of 2007 article in US New call “The New Mommy Track”

Danielle & Kristi at lunch on Oct 19, 2012 in NYC

Kristi and I continued our working relationship long after Moms-for-Profit closed…we finally met in person on November 3, 2008.  And then would meet up in NYC for lunch/dinner occasionally.
During this time, my husbands company was going through rounds and rounds of layoffs and eventually they closed down the office where he worked out of.  But fortunately he was smart enough to grab the opportunity to work from home when his company presented that option to him.   We both have been working at home together (but separate spaces) since 2011.
On one of our weekly calls in November of 2012…Kristi informed me that she and her husband would be moving to Canada and so she wanted to know if I would be interested in buying her website business.  Of course I say YES…talk about scary!  No clue what I was going to get myself into.  So officially in January of 2013, DLO-Consulting purchased Mustang Web Designs.
Flash forward…to May of 2016.
Kimberly Palmer is thriving as a financial writer and has another book coming out…which I have pre-ordered and can’t wait to share with others:  Smart Mom, Rich Mom – http://www.kimberly-palmer.com/smartmomrichmom/
Please Kimberly’s website to learn more about her:  www.kimberly-palmer.com.
Danielle Oswald, me, is still a successful entrepreneur.  Having one business, a household to run kids to raise and daily life to live was busy enough.  Then a short 8 months later in August of 2013, I was presented with another business opportunity…
To partner with the doctors who created Proactiv in their new Anti-Aging company, Rodan + Fields.  This is a unique opportunity that gives you the ability to own a virtual franchise store front of Rodan + Fields and their line of skin care products.  Products are drop shipped from corporate to the customer and no paperwork or parties are required.  I’d love to share more with you.

PS – they have had some impressive growth over the last 8 years since they entered the direct selling distribution channel.  In 2014, product sales were $330 mil, in 2015 product sales were $626.9 mil…there is enormous room for growth
You Can Do This TOO!
I proudly want to encourage and empower other Moms or Dads that they should truly be open to the opportunities presented to them, even if they come in a package that you do not recognize.
“I did not have get married or have a family to spend 40-50 hours away from them during the week and be stressed at the end of the day and not have energy to give them the love they deserve. I knew that there was an option for me and if I couldn’t find it…I’d create it.  That is what I did!”  – Danielle Oswald
I had the undying FAITH that I could make this work when I began my entrepreneurial journey in 2006.  Do you have faith that you can do it too?  I have faith in you!
