Protect those, who took the Oath to Serve & Protect Us

Police officers are commissioned to keep citizens safe 24 hours a day and seven days a week. The job of a law enforcement officer carries a great deal of risk, but many people pursue a career as a police officer because they feel a moral duty to protect others.” (http://work.chron.com/obligations-job-duties-police-officers-24841.html)

Danielle & Dad 1975

As you may or may not know, I am the daughter of the late Captain Thomas P. Earley a 28 year veteran of the New Brunswick Police Department.  My father was a proud, dedicated, courageous and humble man and I am honored to be his daughter.  Below is a favorite of photo of us from 1975.  I was just about 1 year old here and Daddy came home on a lunch break.

Even, while not on duty, Dad carried out his oath to protect and serve.   Oh boy some stories I could tell.

But, the main reason I am writing this today is because a great deal of Dad’s work happened outside the police station in the sunlight during ALL types of weather and we live in the Northeast so you know how our winters can be so cold and snow bound and how HOT our summers can get.

my_lieutenantI remember many times when my dad would come home sunburned because he spent the day out directing traffic in the middle of the summer.  Part of police work can also include, extra jobs.  Traffic control, etc.  As my dad was the director of the Traffic Safety & Enforcement Unit of the NBPD he spent a lot of time outside.  A result of over 25 years of prolonged sun exposure, he ended up with Melanoma, on top of Metastatic Prostate Cancer.

My goal with my ‘Skin Care Business’ is to educate people about the importance of wearing sunscreen EVERY single day, rain or shine.  This rain or shine thing is true, because in the past I have experienced my WORST sunburns on cloudy, overcast days at the beach.

According to the American Cancer Society, “Cancer of the skin is by far the most common of all cancers. Melanoma accounts for only about 1% of skin cancers but causes a large majority of skin cancer deaths.

How common is melanoma?

The American Cancer Society’s estimates for melanoma in the United States for 2016 are:

  • About 76,380 new melanomas will be diagnosed (about 46,870 in men and 29,510 in women).
  • About 10,130 people are expected to die of melanoma (about 6,750 men and 3,380 women).

The rates of melanoma have been rising for the last 30 years.”

We as a human race are learning more about the dangers of the sun’s rays (http://www.cancer.org/cancer/skincancer-melanoma/detailedguide/melanoma-skin-cancer-key-statistics):

  • UVA (deep aging rays) and
  • UVB (causes sunburn)

So HOW can YOU help, you ask?  I will tell you.

protect_those_who_protect_serve_usYou can purchase a Sunscreen Care Package from me or any of my team and I will hand deliver to the New Brunswick Police Department or the South River Police Department (where I reside now).

Beginnings…

Beginnings are usual scary, endings are usually sad, it is the middle that counts.  So make sure that you remember that when you find yourself at the beginning.”  – Hope Floats

Beginnings….a little historical perspective to back up the fact that I do know what I am speaking of regarding working for yourself, from home as an entrepreneur.

 moms_for-profit
In April of 2006, I began working with Kristi Stangeland, formerly of Mustang Web Designs…working for her as a Virtual Assistant, then as her web design assistant.
Kristi and I originally met through an organization that no longer exists called Moms-for-Profit.  Which had the mission to provide small businesses with skilled stay at home Moms consultants.  They were the match makers for businesses and consultants.
NYC at the launch of a Magazine for Hybrid Mom on May 17th, 2007
This event is where Heidi and I met, Kimberly Palmer of US News.  I recall sitting on the white sofa in the trendy loft in Tribeca where the Magazine launch party was held and Kimberly intereviewed us and Heidi was part Kimberly’s first cover article in US News in September of 2007 article in US New call “The New Mommy Track”

Danielle & Kristi at lunch on Oct 19, 2012 in NYC

Kristi and I continued our working relationship long after Moms-for-Profit closed…we finally met in person on November 3, 2008.  And then would meet up in NYC for lunch/dinner occasionally.
During this time, my husbands company was going through rounds and rounds of layoffs and eventually they closed down the office where he worked out of.  But fortunately he was smart enough to grab the opportunity to work from home when his company presented that option to him.   We both have been working at home together (but separate spaces) since 2011.
On one of our weekly calls in November of 2012…Kristi informed me that she and her husband would be moving to Canada and so she wanted to know if I would be interested in buying her website business.  Of course I say YES…talk about scary!  No clue what I was going to get myself into.  So officially in January of 2013, DLO-Consulting purchased Mustang Web Designs.
Flash forward…to May of 2016.
Kimberly Palmer is thriving as a financial writer and has another book coming out…which I have pre-ordered and can’t wait to share with others:  Smart Mom, Rich Mom – http://www.kimberly-palmer.com/smartmomrichmom/
Please Kimberly’s website to learn more about her:  www.kimberly-palmer.com.
Danielle Oswald, me, is still a successful entrepreneur.  Having one business, a household to run kids to raise and daily life to live was busy enough.  Then a short 8 months later in August of 2013, I was presented with another business opportunity…
To partner with the doctors who created Proactiv in their new Anti-Aging company, Rodan + Fields.  This is a unique opportunity that gives you the ability to own a virtual franchise store front of Rodan + Fields and their line of skin care products.  Products are drop shipped from corporate to the customer and no paperwork or parties are required.  I’d love to share more with you.

PS – they have had some impressive growth over the last 8 years since they entered the direct selling distribution channel.  In 2014, product sales were $330 mil, in 2015 product sales were $626.9 mil…there is enormous room for growth
You Can Do This TOO!
I proudly want to encourage and empower other Moms or Dads that they should truly be open to the opportunities presented to them, even if they come in a package that you do not recognize.
“I did not have get married or have a family to spend 40-50 hours away from them during the week and be stressed at the end of the day and not have energy to give them the love they deserve. I knew that there was an option for me and if I couldn’t find it…I’d create it.  That is what I did!”  – Danielle Oswald
I had the undying FAITH that I could make this work when I began my entrepreneurial journey in 2006.  Do you have faith that you can do it too?  I have faith in you!

Real Men are taking care of…

Well, now I’m not going to hit you with a bunch of statistics and charts.  I’ve got an intelligence source that is even better than that…from those in the trenches in the hair & nail salons.  My hairstylist, Ranelle, who I have been going to see for over 14 years and my manicurist, Snow, who I have been seeing for over 13 years.  In fact, my husband (then boyfriend) is the one who introduced me to Ranelle.

On two separate occasions they have shared with me just through casual conversations that more and more men are taking notice of their appearance and therefore taking care of their hair, skin & nails.   Let’s set aside whatever preconceived notions that you may have about men taking care of the appearance and just focus on the fact that men are embracing the value of their appearance and therefore are pampering themselves without shame!

As a consultant with Rodan + Fields, I am proud to share these clinically proven products that are results oriented and will change your skin.

Since there is a 60 day EMPTY bottle money back guarantee, I am challenging all of the men in my life to give Rodan + Fields a try and lets see how great your skin looks after using for 1 day, 1 week, 1 month, 6 weeks.  You will see a change or your money back.

Celebrating 10 Years!

celebrating_10_years

10 Years…AMAZING!

On Tuesday, November 29, 2005 – I officially began Maternity Leave for my position at the time.  Prior to my son, Dean, arriving in our world at 5:34pm on Friday, December 23, 2005, I fully intended to return to work.

ALL of that changed as SOON as I held him in my arms.  At that point I began to figure out a way to be able to stay home and raise my son & work on my own terms.

FAITH is what kept me going.  I did not have an earthly idea as to how this would work… but I KNEW it would work.  Thank goodness for not trying to plan what has transpired over the last decade of my families life.  Being open to opportunities that are presented to you – EVEN when then are not presented in a package that your recognize as ‘normal’.

The benefits of being open to opportunities is that you can actually get what you want.  I wanted nothing more to be a Work-at-Home Mom.  Here I am 10 years and going strong!!!

Being a work at home Mom is not AT ALL easy…but it is definitely WORTH IT!  The flexibility to be there for my family and my extended family when they need and still being able to accomplish work for my clients is so gratifying.  Being an Independent Consultant for my clients gives you just that… FLEXIBILITY!

We live in a time where, more than ever, it is possible to have the most flexibility in our work + family lives.  It is so important to pay attention to the opportunities presented to you.  “The World Is Changing.  The Way People Make Money Is Changing.  I’m Just HAPPY I Know It!” – BOSSBABE

We do not know how our lives will play out – just make sure you don’t disregard an opportunity to get what you want because it is not recognizable.

December 2, 2015 marks the 16th anniversary of my Dad passing away…I’m faithful that he is more than proud of me for designing the life that I have for myself and my family.  Defining moments in your life can shape your life.  Take the time to shape it into something you LOVE.

Long Term Vision or Instant Gratification

Video

Looking back…during this time of reflection and giving thanks, I felt that this one was worth re-posting.

achangeinview

What You Want Most vs NowWhich will give you more happiness over time?

Instant Gratification or Long Term Vision

By definition:

Instant – an infinitesimal space of time.

Vision – unusual discernment or foresight (a person of vision)

What is it that you really want to be able to do?

  • Have Time Freedom
  • Be able to care for Family
  • Provide for your Family
  • Give back to your Community (external Family).
  • Assist others in reaching their goals.

Patience is a virtue that will enable you to enjoy the benefits of achieving your long-term vision done in a careful way over a long period of time without hurrying.

Danielle’s Thought:

After all of this time, I realized I have been in the direct selling industry since I began my virtual business over 9 years ago…it just is not in a package that is easily transferable to someone who has an open mind and is coach-able to…

Well… parenting foul for me today. But we survived.

love_proveWell… today is Sunday – it is supposed to be a day of rest, prayer & peace.  Not usually work.  But, today my family and I decided to do some cleaning in our house.  We tried to encourage the boys to clean up their own mess…but that did not go as smoothly as I had hoped.

I’m usually very patient with my boys – but today it could have been MUCH better on my part.  Thankfully my impatience lasted only for a little while, but the damage was done.  I hope that this will be short lived in my boys minds.

I pray that God will give me the strength to keep my patience and model loving, constructive behavior for my boys.  I am grateful that my hubby was able to keep his patience.

My promise to our family is to work harder at being a more loving, patient person, wife, mother, daughter, sister, friend & colleague.

The GREAT thing about tomorrow is that it is a new day for a fresh start.  To having a great day tomorrow.
